NYC is a sensory barrage which is very stimulating but hard on the nerves. To live well there is to know how and when to calm your nerves so as to take everything in stride.

Love these more stream of conscious style experiences in the big city! I used to feel so overwhelmed visiting New York, but now as I realize I can go at my own pace it feels far more peaceful and enjoyable

What do you think of seeing so many very tall buildings? I'm still amazed coming to NYC - even after many visits - to see so many skyscrapers compared to the small number (~10) we have in my much smaller US city.

I loved the skyscrapers. I live in a very tall building in The Hague, in a high-rise area (very uncommon for The Netherlands), so I'm used to them, but not to this extent.

One of our daughters lives in NYC, so we get the chance to go from time to time. I find it a little overwhelming. It was interesting to read your non-touristy viewpoint.
